GTA: Vive Alpha 0.1 Release
Hey guys, I'm releasing an early build of GTA: Vive! Check it out.
My Vive kit is broken, but I don't want to let this sit around for too long without releasing something. I usually like to finish things before I release them, but I can't right now.
I've been trying to get an RMA via E-Mail for over two weeks, and I just recently got a shipping notice. Not sure how much it's going to cost, either. So, I'm just dropping it here, as is, unchanged from the last alpha I sent out a month ago to a few secret users.
Stereo is disabled because of gut wrenching artifacts and performance issues. I believe both are solvable. Only four weapons are implemented (unanimated). I wish I could work on this more, but I'm not in a position to. Need to focus on finding a new job and some other projects, not to mention the broken Vive!
Installation instructions:
- Install ScriptHookV: http://www.dev-c.com/gtav/scripthookv/
- Download gta_vive_alpha12.zip and extract the contents to your GTA folder.
- Right click on the game on Steam -> properties -> uncheck the second box that says display in theatre mode.
- Click "Set Game Launch Options" and set them as:
-width 1152 -height 1280 -framelimit 0 -windowed(If non-Steam, create a file called "commandline.txt" in your GTA directory. Put the command line switches in there instead.) - Start the game with SteamVR running.
- In the options menu, set the aspect ratio to 5:4. GTA: Vive corrects it in post, but 5:4 is what it assumes.
- Make sure you're using DirectX11 in your graphics settings.
- While you're in there, lower your settings. A lot. You'll get stutters if you don't.
- Restart the game.
- Press L once ingame to activate VR mode.
Controller use:
- Use the trigger to fire.
- The menu button switches weapons.
- The trackpad can be used to teleport and slide to move.
- The grip button lets you punch people with iron knuckles.
- Teleport into a car to start driving. Press the grip button to center your view. Use the other controller to steer.
Keyboard use:
- Press L once ingame to activate VR mode.
- Press 0 to toggle rendering to the game window on your monitor (Default: on)
- Press 1 to toggle slide on trackpad to move on and off (Default: off)
Troubleshooting:
- Windows 7 seems to be unsupported.
- Make sure SteamVR is in direct mode.
